I truly don't understand how this happened. Not once now, but twice, my main email account on my computer has been erased- "deleted". First, quite some time ago, my wife was trying to wake the machine up by tapping on a key....The DELETE key! Erased all emails. Now, my two year old snuck in and banged on the computer and has managed to do the same thing. Anyone know how to recover a deleted folder of a main email account in Windows livemail 2011? This is the version that runs on your computer, not signed in to a web site. Here is the "about" version:

Version 2011 (Build 15.4.3538.0513)
Copyright © 2010 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

I just don't understand. Every other time I try to delete something Windows says "Are you sure?" "No, really are you SURE??" How?

Any help recovering this would be appreciated. I don't see an "Undo" button.

That sure doesn't sound good! I have no true idea, but my hunch is they are gone. Hope I am wrong.

And "gone" is "GONE!" The folder for "3watchmen" no longer exists, not the inbox, not the trash, not the sent messages.....nothing.

I don't know if a restore would help or not. My brother always tells me I should back up regularly, but I don't.

Howard you don't say what version of Windows you are running but if you know how to use the Windows Explorer fire it up and go to the recycle bin and open it up. You should see the folder in there just right click on it and tell it to restore.

Does Windows live have abackup option? If so I think I would start using it.

OK, thanks for the suggestion, I checked and the only files/folders deleted today (sorted by date) are *.tmp files, which I think are windows temporary files. I restored them, but no luck on retreiving my email folder.

Chris: I've worked through your suggestion and am restoring. We'll see what happens. I did have trouble getting to those folders, they don't just pop out at you from what I could tell.

I'll keep my fingers crossed! I was just the middle man, I am clueless to this stuff, I let Google do the work for me. Good Luck!!!

OK! Great news: My main "inbox" and associated folders have been restored! The only downside? Since I chose a restore point of several days ago, the email program went out and re-downloaded messages from the last several days. Ah well, I can deal with double emails. Thanks so much to all who responded.

A backup and restore is about the only way. I think even with livemail just like outlook the personal files (.pst) are stored in hidden directories and you would have to enable the hidden files option in the control panel to see them. Even with that being said once an account would be deleted in the program then the personal folder would be updated and not have the info any longer.

Backups are the best :D
