I take all remnants of rope out of the plastic pulley first. Then I wind the pulley until I have the spring almost to max wind, and then align the rope knot hole to the recoil housing rope hole. Lock the pulley in place, then feed the rope (end melted to a pointy end) through into the pulley, then with needle nose pliers, pull the rope up through, tie the knot & stuff the knot into the hole. BTW....I also put the handle on the other end of the rope before starting, as it's a pain if the pulley gets unlocked & zips all the rope into the housing!
