See attached pic.

I believe this is a spring-assist for the mower deck on my 1050??? I don't know for sure because only one of my 1050's came with a mower deck and it's not in working order so I'm just not positive what I have here. Could it be a spring assist for anything that hooks to the deck height adjustment arm? For example, if I were building a sleeve hitch, would this work as a spring assist for that? Help?

This spring was only used for lifting the mower decks.

I think nut toward rear is the proper position from other pictures I've seen, good luck

Yes, you are correct the nut on the one end faces the rear of the tractor.
Thanks for the close up picture, I didnt have one on hand that I could post.

No, that is not a spring assist kit for the lift.

The mower is lifted via that link. ...The spring allows the mower to rise if the mower skids hit a high-spot of the ground.

There is a small hole in the rod an inch or so from the end with the nut. ....If you raise the mower and insert a hairpin clip through the hole, that will eliminate the "floating" action of the lift mechanism.
