Is It What I Think It Is?

I believe this is a spring-assist for the mower deck on my 1050??? I don't know for sure because only one of my 1050's came with a mower deck and it's not in working order so I'm just not positive what I have here. Could it be a spring assist for anything that hooks to the deck height adjustment arm? For example, if I were building a sleeve hitch, would this work as a spring assist for that? Help?

The mower is lifted via that link. ...The spring allows the mower to rise if the mower skids hit a high-spot of the ground.
There is a small hole in the rod an inch or so from the end with the nut. ....If you raise the mower and insert a hairpin clip through the hole, that will eliminate the "floating" action of the lift mechanism.
