Hello,
I am new to this site, and new to Bolens. I have some old Deere 200 Series items, and I am familiar with WeekendFreedomMachines. This looks like a great site also. Anyway, I just picked up a tiller from an auction yesterday. It is a Bolens 23609 02, SN: 3119. I understand that this fits on the Ride-a-Matic tractors. After cleaning it up a little bit, I have found out that this is brand new, never assembled. I put the the leveling board on the hood before realizing that this has never been assembled. This has all lot of rust, and some pitting, but in great mechanical shape. You can still see the white paint on the sharp edge of the tines, on the mounting bolts that were painted on the gear case, and on the pulley. Does anyone have an idea on what year this is? Does anyone have any idea on how rear this is? Am I better off selling this, or finding a tractor to go with it? I am located in Ryan, IA. 563-608-3591. Thanks, Travis Mensen

Hello Wilberj,
I am figuring I will probably sell it. I don't have room for another tractor to put with it, and the boss might not like me keeping it. I am not apposed to taking offers, but I don't know how I will sell it. I have sold a few things on Ebay in the past, and tends to be the best way to reach out to the most amount of people. I would like to know more about it first.

Thanks,
Travis

I believe your tiller is from 1962, as I think the 1961 Bolens tractors & attachments were painted green.

I have PDF copies of the 61 and 62 Bolens brochures. It looks like 61 was something of a 'cross over' year. It shows the RAM painted gold, some of the attachments painted green and yellow and others painted gold and white. The tiller is shown as being green with yellow tines.

In the 62 brochure it seems that everything is gold and white.

Thank you to everyone that gave input. I will be putting this on Ebay for you sometime this week. I have never shipped anything this big before. I am assuming I will have to ship freight. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I beleive that should fit 1961 and 62 ride a matics. Tillers seem to be getting harder to find. I would keep it and find a bolens to fit it on which shouldnt be hard.

You can get it in two boxes, the drive shaft would have to go in a shipping tube.

I would say its a a 61 or 62 from the color.

It would look great on the back of my ride a matic.

Thank you again for all of your input. I have it listed on Ebay now. I hope someone gets it for a great price, and it finds a great home. My wife was not into me getting another tractor. I know that I should make some money on it since I bought it at an auction for $5.00. Yes, I said $5.00 This was a large consignment auction, and it was put on the odd-n-end hayrack instead of with the lawn and garden items.

Thanks,
Travis

There is a yoke in the picture toward the gearbox side that I believe doesn't go with it. It is splined on one end and square on the other end. Does anyone know what and where that goes? If it doesn't go on the tiller, I will sell it on this web site. It also looks to be new.
Thanks,
Travis

According to Bolens, the 23609 tiller will fit the (1959) model 230, the (1960) models 231 & 232, the (1961) models 233 & 234, and the (1962) models 235 & 236 Ride-A-Matic tractors.

To use the 23609 on a 1962 tractor, a # 23131 Hitch is required.

The parts list for this tiller is posted at: http://gardentractor...3609-02-tiller/
