Todays progress picture shows me doing some final work on the fenders adding a narrow front edge and I also cut a radius on the rear brace of each fender giving a more curved look.

thanks , I'm finding more and more pics of 4020's with front wheel assist. A lot of people seem to think they never made them.

I can tell you one thing Don, when I move to SD in the 70's the JD 4020's were as thick as bugs on a bumper and I have never seen one. I don't recall ever seeing one for sale. I would have guessed they never made one. On the other hand 4x4 pickups weren't common then either.

Don, is that exhaust stack functional? It looks great on there.

I'm sure my 1/2 scale 4020 with front wheel assist front tires will get a lot of questions. I always loved any old tractor with front wheel assist that had lug tires on the front. The exhaust stack is static right now but will definately be converted to a fully functional exhaust spewing out thick black diesel smoke !! :dancingbanana:

Don, Does the 430 hood have a recess where the decal goes? If so, are you going to fill that to make the hood smooth like the 4020? The project really looks great so far, you do a great job on all your builds!!

Thanks , yes the hood has a 1/4 inch or so recess along both sides that will have to be brought out to make it a smooth edge. Check out this jd 3020 with front wheel assist . I never saw one of these before .

If I had room to run it, just a plain jane 4020 would be nice to have. Nice pics, gives more of a sense of what you are trying to achieve!

Yes, I will have to post pics on my daily blog too to show everyone what the real ones did look like. If I ever display it with the five bottom plow at a tractor show I will have to display several picturesw of the real ones with front wheel assist to eliminate a lot of explaining to a lot of people who have never seen them.

I just finished up reading all 7 pages of this build. All I can say is Mr. Don Campbell you do amazing work and can not wait to see it finished. Hopefully you will do a build-a-long on the 5 bottom plow when you start that one........KJD

Thanks for the positive comments. I am working on four garden tractor projects this summer and I'll be sure to share the process. And I will also share the 5 bottom plow build. Here is a picture of the side panels and front panel sanded and ready for paint.
