After 15 years of talking about it , today i cut out the steel and drilled the holes for the very first stage of my own 1/2 scale JD tractor and plow . Although my tractor will be a little taller with the 35 in tall rear tires it's going to be great !!! This picture shows one rear wheel adaptor done and me welding up the second one.
Here is the very first picture of the very first parts .

Should be a neat tractor when your done. The 4020 is a great tractor, spent a lot of hours on one under the hot sun in summer and blowing snow in winter. I'm not impressed with the JD that replaced it, but a cab is nice.

With the rear adaptors now finished I moved to the front wheels . Because the rear tires are 35 inches tall the 8 inch rims on center bearing mounts on the front axle got to go. I will rebuild the front spindles to accomodate five bolt 12" rims and allow the height adjustment to have the frame set level when mounted. I ordered a set of 23-950-12 tires today from Miller tire for the front for now . Will still be looking for possible other choice for front tires that size but different tread pattern.

The JD 4020 is one of my favorite tractors. The first diesel tractor I ever operated and they are still bringing top dollar in this area.
Thanks for including us in your projects.

I've had a few JD's over the years and they have served me well. Now have a couple of Ford, Fordsons and am enjoying the variety. Have to say though, all my tractors are older than my kids. :)

Are you planning on using the Yanmar out of the 430 for the 4020 project?
