Hey Doc, video was in quicktime format on my old computer and I tried to attach it as I would a photo, when I looked at the help topics it listed this icon: { Posted Image - This will allow you to link to media, such as a video or song.} which I could not find anywhere. On first try, prior to reading the help topic, it appeared to load the attachment then error msg.said "couldn't do"...Thanks

Well, In this case I think they were correct on them needing to be replaced. They probably can still be sharpened and used but due to the excessive wear on the ends it may create "striping" like you mentioned in your above post.

Out of all the Bolens deck blades I have seen over the years these ones are some of the most worn I have seen.

After review of two ongoing projects, involving mower decks; 'goodnews' 1054 Husky restore.. and mark843s' ...Rebuild.
I've decided to share the present condition of the deck that came with my '650. Brace yourselves, it ain't pretty...

I dont think quick time can be embedded into the posts......
Does quick time give you any link to embed onto the site?

Not at the standard level, so I dipped it in 'photobucket', it gave me codes to embed (but don't think I got the steps right..?) :confuse:

If the 2nd link works, set coffee mug on solid surface prior to viewing, as it isn't 1st quality film work...Thanks

Glad you got it running,
How much MM oil did you put in the cylinder? I have a Briggs that is smoking pretty good and just did an oil change in it to get rid of the tar that was in there. Still smoking, but a little less.

Belt shedding sucks. Been there, done that.
Sounds like it's a little long and your brakes need tuned up some.

Thanks, not much, I'd say about a shot glass worth (maybe a little more) with about the same to the gas I added when I went to start it.

Glad it worked for you

check your brakes as they may need replacing or adjustment if you are hearing grinding when shifting. Did the belt break or just slip off?

I've got two strong recommendations on where to look but no personal experience to get me there, could somebody add clues for the clueless on this impending brake check/ adjustment? :anyone:
In the meantime I'll start loosening up nuts on the mower deck...

The main pad that stops the driveshaft from spinning sits right below the shifting lever.
When the tractor is running in neutral get off and press the clutch all the way down by hand and watch and see if the shaft stops spinning. If it takes longer than 5 seconds for that shaft to stop spinning then the brakes need to be replaced or adjusted.

OK, Doc. I think that's doable. While waiting for that tip and more I started prepping for the seat cushion/covers and opening the deck: pics coming
IMG_6304.JPG IMG_6305.JPG IMG_6306.JPG IMG_6307.JPG
Basic, rough, pattern outlines...still trying to choose between black and tan. I'm open to suggestions.

This is how far I got on the deck, I'm noticing some small differences from mine, compared to others including this latest pic from 'Doc'; which seems to indicate a'rod' headed toward the rear? wondering how much might be missing for me...

I'm gonna attempt to make 'saddle time' a bit more comfy. For the purists out there;
No original equipment was altered or harmed in this demo... :itsok:

I think your missing the two lift rods that attach from the back of the deck to the rear axle tabs.

I think the parts manual posted at:
http://gardentractor...441-01-32inpdf/
should be the same, or very similar, to your mower deck.

This should give you an idea of what the rods & clevises look like.
  • Bolens 1000 and Newpaws493 have said thanks
