Yep, -13F is cold, and without parlor heat..............

Just finished patching the busted water pipe.  The so called "Freeze proof" stock waterer in the dry field was partly frozen.  The ball that floats up & seals the drink opening was frozen in place.  Josh did the usual pouring of hot water, but it still didn't give.   He pushed it with the heel of his boot & cracked the ball, and they aren't foam filled.  Local feed store had a replacement, so Josh went to get it along with 100lbs of salt.  At least tonight it's supposed to only go down to 24, but we'll see.  With a forecast of up to 3" of snow & sleet, with possible freezing rain, the outlook is for no fun over the weekend.  Everything has stopped except for basics with the rest of the time going to problem after problem.  MIL is still in the hospital too, but I've had no time to visit, and Teresa doesn't like to drive on the icy roads.  MIL "may" come home today or tomorrow if her blood oxygen levels improve.  The pneumonia knocked her pretty good.

1/4" ice possible tonight, along with sleet & snow.  I may not get the day off tomorrow after all.  If we get freezing rain,it will be nearly impossible to feed silage.  It has to get better one of these days.  :(   I'm being stressed way more than I need to be.  My leg that had the DVT's (blood clots) is bothering me a lot.  Been on my feet way more than usual & feeling it.

Man, ice is the worst.

We had a high of 17 today, snow starts around midnight, 3-6" ,then afternoon gets in high 30's, maybe break 40 and turn to rain.

I think we will all be happy to get into spring.

Stock waterer is repaired, all the gals in the field came running for a drink.  I fed silage for Josh while he ran to town for the ball, and had him pick up some ice busting salt too.  100lbs, but I should have bought a pallet of the stuff!  Soon time to milk, but tonight should be simple.  Had the furnace running all day long to put some warmth in the concrete, and it feels better in there, but a half hour ago there was still some ice on the floor where the cows walk, so it got some salt.  I'll sand it if it needs it also.

Had them put me on the list to top off the propane tanks.  Our lowest tank is at 30%, but don't want anything getting low with the unpredictable weather we're having.

Forgot....found a Dove in the milk parlor this morning.  There was a hole where feed pipes used to enter the parlor that the insulating plug had fell out of, so it must have entered there.  It flew around, then landed on a milk weigh jar right next to me.  I just picked it up.  I took my glove off a couple minutes later & held it to take it outside, but when I opened my hand outside, it just sat there in my hand, happy to be getting warm.  I held it a few minutes while I was trying to run the wash cycle to thaw the milk lines.  By that time I took it out again & it took flight to the barn.  If it had been a starling, I'd have given him flight into concrete!

White dove, a sign someone is looking over you?  A sign of peace in your future? You deserve it after all you have been through.

Made it through milking tonight without issue.  Tired as heck, and hungry.  Bowl of oyster soup coming up!

Dad's water froze at his house last night, but thawed late this afternoon....and it's busted under his house.  If I remember right, it's 1/2" rigid copper, so if so, I can get a couple shark bites & a piece of pex & fix it easy as sin.  If one end of the copper can move inward just a bit, then all I'll need is one shark bite.  If roads are bad tomorrow, it may have to wait.  BUT, in that case I could solder the repair, as I'm pretty sure I have the copper couplers.

Maybe he'll come back today? You could have company while out there!

Or a sign that Daniel is a Disney princess and didn't know it?

No phone call this morning, so got over 9 hours sleep!   :dancingbanana:   Looks to be some ice sheet out there, and I hear/see the light rain.
