I picked-up the mower deck for my 1050 from my Dad's this weekend. I guess I'd better start with ID'ing it... It's green, it came off my 1966 1050, and it measures 46" at the widest point. Of course, the numbers on the stickers are long gone. Which is strange, because the stickers are in decent condition. Anyone know which model deck this is? (I'm looking at you, Doc Bolens. haha)

Anyways, I brought it home and looked it over and, visually it's not too bad. However, nothing that is supposed to move does. So I was hoping you guys who have more experience than I do (all of you) might direct me where to begin on this so as to not waste any steps. What do I take apart first?

I'd love to be able to mow with my 1050 this year! That would definitely help my tractor's standing in my wife's eyes. Haha.

As always, thanks in advance for the help you all will be and I look forward to learning all I can about my Bolens and GT's in general.

You probably have a 42" cut mower deck. (Size is determined by width of cut, not overall width of mower housing.)

The most common 42" deck sold with the 1050's was a # 18457. .....There were 38" cut mower attachments for use with other model tractors, so it's possible you have one of these.

Check out this link to the parts manual to see if it looks like what you have, and to make sure you have all the mounting hardware.

The parts diagram will help show you what needs to come apart.

You can start by removing the hanger brackets (#14 & #54 called "bails" in the parts diagram). ....Then remove the bolts which fasten the entire gearbox to the deck, and remove the gearbox.

The small bolts holding the belt cover to the deck usually rust and will snap easily when trying to remove them. ....Rust penetrant may help, but usually it doesn't. .....The belt cover will have to be removed to get to the belt, idler pulleys, and blade spindles.

:ditto:
Bruce has pretty much covered all the points

If you have a picture of your deck that would help verify the model and width of cut.

There is another U-joint needed which is not shown in your pics. ....Hopefully, you have that.

It is female spline on one end to fit on the PTO shaft, and the other end is a female rectangular opening to fit onto the U-joint on the mower gear box.

These are the bearings for the blades themselves?

Are you referring to the u-joint that goes from the shaft on the mower deck (pictured) to the PTO? I believe I left that on the donor tractor but I do have it. If it's the one I think you mean...

Do you know What kind of bearings you have? Bolens used 2 different bearings on their decks (Ball bearing and Roller Bearing)

Yes, we are describing the same part.
