Howdy, I am needing to know the procedure to adjust the compression band brake for my 1979 JD 216 lawn tractor. The band appears to be alright, but section 15 is missing from my JD service manual, so I don't have the procedure. Thanks for the help!!!

Is this a help. I think it should apply for a 1979.

if any oil is on the brake band any adjustments will not help much, the band will need to be cleaned.
you can use brake cleaner, it will help

Thanks all!!! This is exactly what I was needing. I don't have any oil or contaminants on the friction material, all is clean. I was attempting to adjust the other end. Y'all are a lot of help!!!

Glad to help. If you can, post some pictures of your tractor. We enjoy pics of old iron.

Thanks again, I got the band adjusted last night and all seems to be working just fine. It's nice having a parking brake that will now hold on a hill!!!
