Unless I missed something,that slot in the gear shift is to keep the shifter from turning.

Ok That would make sense, because the shifters are curved on the 1054 and if they were able to rotate then they would be hitting the seat when trying to shift. Since the older models used a straight shifter, It really doesn't matter if the shifter turns.

so i guess i need some type of half moon deal , ican not find it any of the manuals and i don't think it was there when i took it apart .
back to the drawing board.

Check out the parts manual at: http://gardentractor...33-bolens-1053/

Look at part # 37 and part # 117 in the diagram on page 2.

One is a roll pin and one is a dowel pin.

I suspect (but I'm not certain) that the dowel pin is held captive between the upper and lower flanges, and fits in the slot in the chassis to keep the gear shift from rotating.

The diameter of the dowel pin will probably match the width of the slot in the gearshift ball. .... The length can be easily determined.

i been wondering what that pin was for thanks to you guys now i know, the link bruce gave me was right on never would have thought it but pics. don't lie . amazing what you can learn if just ask!!!!!

hey guys need help on that zenith carbs. linkage hook up anyone got a pic of one sure would help like they say a pic. is worth a 1000 words i did get it running yesterday 1st.time the wis. sounded good. thanks guys for all your help.in Christ :thumbs:

thanks doc for the pics. so the top cable is goingto the choke is the bottpm cable going to the throttle or is it going to the govrner linkage

...The top cable goes to the choke and the bottom goes to the throttle control mounted on the shroud
