I'm listening to a favorite radio station from southern VA as I look at our site. They are reporting the current death toll at 20 with the current tornadoes.I'm sure this will climb as rescue people find more victims. Our thoughts and prayers go out to these folks .

Last time I checked there were 14 dead here in Indiana from the storms. And Marrysville Indiana is not gone, it was an unincorporated town about 50 miles north of Louisville. Prayers and good thoughts go out to everyone affected.

I sure hope everyone is safe tonight and our thought and prayers go out to all of you who have had to deal with this weather the past few days. We dodged the bullet tonight, a Storm with a twister went through the northern end of our county about 15-20 miles and on up into the county to the north of us. All we got was some storms with lightning and rain.

We had one man hurt when his house fell in on him. Broke his leg but he was trapped in his basement for over 2hr's while they dug him out.

WX Channel saying that the death toll is at 28 this morning. Our prayers are with all of you affected. This is likely to be a very dangerous spring.

For one who has been through one of these storms, its still hard to believe your eyes at the damage.

I can't even imagine what it would be like to live with the fear of a tornado striking down at any time. Scary stuff! Be strong guys.

I hope this morning finds folks safe and sound. Trent, you just have to be ready to 'batten the hatches' and hope they are strong enough.

As a rule, our hilly landscape gives us a modest amount of protection from these storms. Not that they don't hit here, but they tend to be airborn again pretty quick. It is not unheard of to have a touchdown < a 1/4 mile long, then nothing else.

In 1985, a front of killer storms ripped thru the area. They started in Ohio and worked their way thru the surrounding country. These Storms produced 41 tornadoes that day, reaching all the way into Canada. There was at least one F5, but the one that went thru my town was an F4. It stayed on the ground continuously for 56 miles and killed 23 people by itself. Total loss of life to these storms was officially listed at 76.

I have always felt that part of these losses could have been avoided. Tornadoes were something that happened to someone else, and wasn't a major cause for concern, We were lulled into a false sense of safety by decades of almost non-existant activity. The other problem with that day was it was a beautiful day in front of the clouds. Sunny, mid 70's, gentle breeze... It was too nice a day for anything bad to happen. There is no greater contrast to that morning than the demolished homes and lives of the afternoon.

I pray for the people who have been lost and who have lost loved ones,
I pray for the people who have to search for the missing,
I pray for the people who have to rebuild

We are with you in spirit. God bless all of you.
