When it was restored I painted it with some kind of texture black paint, I will see if I have any at my house and if I do I will see what it is. The original engine leaked oil like mad so my dad and I replaced it and the replacement was painted yellow. So, both. Lol

i just pulled the motor and i finally was able to take the steering tower off. what a pain that was. even though i can see the shaft for the hydro, i still cant free it up. it slides up and down when i press on the brake but it wont pivot from forward to reverse. i put heat on it and sprayed the crap out of it. i might have to try to dissemble it. i'll post pics tonight.

Yep. Grill stayed on. I just removed the voltage regulator. It's bolted to rear of the grill. I also removed the gen/alt. Lifted right out.

On gear drive cubs you have to slide it forward out of the clutch plate so the grill has to come off. Either way, the engine is off so it doesn't really matter anymore.

just curiosity what color is your engine? mines black. i've seen them yellow and i've seen them black. i think mines original. good luck.

With the exception of the hoods and wheels all IH Cub Cadets are federal yellow (except for the 82 series). If it is black it is a replacement engine.

Thanks. I searched the Internet and it seems there's almost the same amount of black as there is yellow. The tag on the engine is correct for the tractor. I like the look of the black engine. So I think I'm going to respray it black.

You are making good progress on your Cub.
BTW,the engine on yours would have been yellow when it was new.
