Ok This might seem funny to some. But I am restoring another carb, and I put the welch plugs in and then sealed them with clear nail polish ( A trick I learned from an old timer years ago) But I got to thinking. I use clear nail polish when I build things to use for surf fishing and it is very strong and shiny! So I thought why not coat the entire carb after I bead blast the body.( cause they always oxidize and loose that nice shine after all that work) So I tested it today, WOW what a diffrence! it even dries fast and multiple coats makes it look like a glass coating. I even poured gas on it and it does not come off! Maybe I am nuts but I was impressed by the results and thought I would pass it along. You can laugh now. :laughingteeth:

I will put it through a good workout and report back on it. I coated the idle screw, springs and choke rod also, I want to see if it holds up and resists rust (if nothing else it will be interesting) Oh and LOL Kenny on this>>>> :rofl2:

"Woman's Product"..........was almost scared to read the post! I've always heard how good it was for sealing welch plugs, but not for coating the entire carb.

Don't know what nail polish is now, but at one time is was pretty much just lacquer.

He had me wondering too, just had to look. Great idea though, might have to get me some, but I think I will stick to clear.

I have a friend who is a shooting enthusiast and he has used it for many years to set the scope screws so that they will not move. Kinda like locktite, or thread locker, but it can be removed easily with a couple drops of Acetone.

I've used nail polish as a thread-lock before. It works well, but tends to gum up the threads if the screw has to be replaced.

I've also had a different kind of "woman's product" duct-taped to my leg...if you're gonna fall out of a truck onto a pointy stick, it pays to have a nurse around. When they ripped that duct-tape off though, along with a bunch of leg hair, I thought I might die. Hurt waaayyyy more than the original impalement.

I use diff. colors of nail polish for all kinds of things. Get 'em at the Dollar Store usually. Just before Christmas I had bought a couple bottles and set them down in the utility room figuring on taking them out to the shop the next day. I looked everywhere and couldn't find them, finally worked on something else. That night sitting around watching the tube and lo'behold all the girls had "passionate red" toenails !!!
So ya better hide the stuff :smilewink:
