Need some info on a 316 Deere grill. My neighbors grill fell out this last year and he ran over it:wallbanging:. Needless to say it was totaled, twisted beyond use, yea it went through the mower deck:mad2:. He has been searching the swap meets and has been told there are 2 grills, one for the onan motor and 1 for the kohler motor. Both grills measure out to a different size but not by much. Seem like everytime we get one the owner is questionable also as to if its the right one. If this is true does anyone have a positive lead to one? He does not want to spend top dollar for a new one:blush2:. Would like to find a nice used one:smile1:. If you need more information, let me know. We have heard there was a switch mid year from a smaller to bigger grill also??? I can tell you his was not the mesh type it was the bar type. Thanks for any help.

I just went on e-bay, there was 1 auction for the 316 grill that fit the onan motor, the guy claims he can get the one to fit the kohler in his write up...He's at $76.00 with shipping. My neighbor is on a fixed income and is in his mid 70's. So I think i will keep looking for a used one to save him some money. I am just hoping someone is parting one out.

I have a 316 with the kohler. The measurements for the 316 grill are 12 1/4" tall, 13 1/4" wide. the grill for my 318 is 13 5/8" tall, 14" wide. The bottom of both of them is the same, in that there are slide in holders/tabs on the bottom of each that are the same. Maybe with some trimming on the sides and cut off the top of a 318 grill and re-attaching it you could make it work outfor him. Took a couple of pics of them together. The black one is from my 316 and the yellow one is from my 318. Front and back angles, 318 grill in the back for both pics. If you can't find the right grill, you might try this. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have a 314 and I don't know about you guys but I find the grill to be a PITA to deal with. I wish they had used a different design to attach it. Good luck to you in finding an affordable one.
