painted the seat today with canvas white rustoleium paint. cleaned the fiberglass fender and painted it also. The wife is busy with a quilt so we did not get started on the seat cover yet, figured i would fix up the pan in the process.

Well the Canvas white paint lead to the hood today. Decided the decals were worth masking over and save. I have decided that this is not going tobe a tear down and restore project , just a get it looking the best you can and still use it mower.
Heres what got done in the last 2 days.
downsized_0130121541.jpg
I taped off everything that had any color to it and the rest went rustolieum expresso brown, satin. The seat is in the house so the wife can workon the seat cover. She started thinking about it today. Notice the spring in one of the photos? That is a Spring Assist kit. Used on manual mowers for easier control when raising or lowering Attachments. This mower has the Hydraulic lift also. Wonder why both? Were these add ons later?

downsized_0130121817.jpg Before and up to date shot. Rims are next to do. Also need a triangle husky decal for the hood, could not save what was left of the old one. Think it will look good when i get a red seat cover, and 2 nicers front caps.

That Spring that you have a picture of is not a spring assist kit. That spring was used for the mower decks only.

Here's a picture of what the spring assist looks like

Is this a different spring assist Kit? Maybe newer? I have a 1050 brochure that shows the identical item and list it as a spring assist kit, optional equipment. 1966 bolens flyer last page or back cover.

Your tractor is looking good, redcarkids. Doing a fine job on the 'refurbish'. Thanks for sharing.

As Brian said, what you have pictured is NOT the spring assist kit which was offered for the tube-frame tractors.

The spring assy which you pictured was used with mower decks. .....It allowed the mower deck to "float" with the terrain.

There is a small hole in the rod (between the nut and the compressed spring). ....If a hairpin clip is inserted in this hole it cancels out the "floating" action of the deck.

The spring does not assist in the lifting of the deck.

Nice job on the repaint !!

Well my wife did it! :smile1:She started this morning and put together a cover for the seat. Wow! Am I happy. I think she did a great job for the first one she ever made. Now to find the red material to match the original color.
Thanks for the info on the spring assist. So this item can come off the mower and goes with the deck. Why would bolens list it as a option in the brochure for the 1050 if it goes with the deck?
