Can some one give me a bit of advise. We found this poor soul wondering the side roads and none of the people in the area recognized the dog. He appeared to be wondering a bit aimlessly and cold. Brad my son and I stopped and the dog was more than happy to get into a warm truck.
It appears some uncaring person may have left this poor animal to its faith.

We did a bit of looking on the net and it appears to be a Newfoundland dog. This is a BIG dog. After it got into the truck both Brad and myself had to work on getting in ourselves. It is a very docile dog and we gave it food and water and it was quite happy.

Did not seem to be all that hungry or thirsty but did eat and drink. Without a home, I have him on my kitchen floor for the night. I could have put him out in the heated shop but I really feel he needs some companionship at the moment.

I recall a member here that raises those dogs. If you could be so kind as to contact me as to there needs I would be very grateful.

My plans are to take him to the vet and make sure all is well. Then if the owner does not show I have a dog!

Before you go to the vet, you might want to stop at the humane society. If he/she has a RF ID chip, they can tell who owns the animal.

That was my thought and I would hope the vet could track that as well. I hesitate to get the government into this as he is to good of a dog to put away.

He just went out to the garage were it is cooler. I believe this dog could like in an ice box but not in my day.

Well I have to report some good news. My son Brad did some detective work and found the owners. They just stopped and picked "Marley" up. We had named him "Fregy" for the short term. I am glad he is back home with his real family.
I was getting ready to go to bed earlier and that dog got a bit fidgety and did not care for lights out. We sat with him and he really needed the attention.
Well he is back home now.

I usually don't browse the forum aside from the tractor part or tool part...but I am happy I found this! That was very nice of you...Newfoundland dogs are very kind and docile...great dogs too. It is super news that you found the rightful owners...how did he get there? I know he didn't open the car door to go out for a pee and not come back? I know they were estatic to get him back...

That's a nice thing you did there. My wife, and daughter, who are both huge dog lovers, want to give
you a big hug.
Glad to hear Marley got back home.

The member you where looking for that's breeding Newfs, is RossBoyle.
Haven't heard from him for a while. Too bad.

That's great, ducky. Glad Marley made it back home. I wonder what happened to Ross, I enjoyed his posts about the dogs.

Great ending to a nice story Ducky. I remember Ross. He used to post here a lot last spring when I first joined.

Ducky, you are a super dooper kind of guy!! Sounds like you got a good son too. Its good to know that you would have taken him in and provided a loving home, but he is much better off with his family. Give your son a hug for the groundwork, do I see a puppy in your future??

The owners did not go into how he left. they did say they tried tracking him for a while but could not follow him. He was roughly 3 miles from home when we picked him up.

No, no puppy on the horizon at the moment.
