Hey,
Lawnboy handles all of the customer support on these old Gilson tractors now. I have a 53054 as well and I contacted them through their website. Not only were they able to tell me what year mine was built (1979) but they sent me an owner's manual free of charge. If anyone could answer technical questions on it, it would probably be them. Try https://support.lawnboy.com or www.shoplawnboy.com Good luck!
