I couldnt verify this but on another group today i read where Cecil Pond passed away on the 30th of December. He was 87. Kind of a sad day for GT collectors.

The Pond Boys gave a lot of themselves to designing the units that have become our hobby. Their genius and design skills are part of the reason they were " built better back then"

His passing is a sad day.

Man that is sad news, the man was a true family man, gentleman, and a true icon.I wonder what this industry would have been like without Mr Pond.

I read about his passing earlier, what a loss.
Here's a quote from Lawn & Garden Collector's Facebook post...

Cecil Pond, age 87, passed away December 30, 2011 after a brief illness in a Florida hospital surrounded by his children and family. Sympathy cards may be sent to: The Pond Family c/o Michael Martino, 127 Walnut Lane, Northford, CT 06472 Services and donations have not yet been determined. It is asked that everyone respect the Pond family's privacy at this time of great sorrow.
God Bless You,

It's my understanding that Cecil was a regular attendee at the National Wheel Horse Collectors club shows. I believe that I missed him by one day when I attended last year. He will be missed!
