Sears doesn't have it. Shouldn't be too hard to find a replacement or make one.

My best guess is 69 or 70. Best guess is 70.

I know of no definitive way to tell by year or model number, just some charts online with good guesses. One digit either way and it's a different model, for the 1970 model year.

found alota 70's that looked pretty close so i decided 2 scan videos. a guy did a video & it is identical to mine from colors, engine, levers, gear pattern, the guy coulda been standin in my garage...lol. anyway, he claims his is a '68 Sears Custom 8XL. My only question would be, how did he find out the year on his??

It is had to tell without pics but the first pic is a 1970 model and the second is a 1968.The color of the 68 and 69 was red and in 70 they went to orange. Now a 69 looks close to a 70 in syle just red in color.

well based on this link, the custom 8 was only made in 71 & 72 and the 71 is red & white. now the 72 sears custom 8 on this link is a compact & also orange/white & i would say its prob my tractor. Its pretty identical.
