I have a 318, and some sleeve hitch implements. My problem is I don't have what is in between.

I don't think JD made an integral sleeve hitch for the 318. It appears an expensive 3-pt hitch addition is needed.

Has anyone been able to adapt a sleeve hitch to a 318?

There is an integral hitch available for the 140's and the older 300 series. You may be able to adapt that. There is a set of plans here for the sleeve hitch somewhere but I can't seem to locate them right now. If you PM me with your email address I'll send you a copy of those plans. From that you should be able to determine if you can make it work on the 318.

If you have a 3pt hitch or plan on getting one you could get a A frame adapter like this.

Deere never made a sleeve hitch for the 318, 322, 332 tractors because they sold a three point for them instead. As stated above you need an adaptor to convert from the three point to sleeve hitch which will be an aftermarket piece. If you don't have a three point hitch you can buy one from Ruegg Manufacturing

I have seen those plans. Either on this site or WFM. I'll have to do some more investigating. Thanks for the response.

I was hoping not to have to buy a 3 point hitch for it due to the expense and then having to convert to sleeve hitch. Looks like about $450 +

As mentioned you need the 3 point hitch and A-frame adapter like this one: Cub Cadet Parts

There are plans out there for making the A-frame adapter.

That's the drawing I did and that's my little picture site. That hitch is for the closed frame tractors, i.e. square fender 110/112s, 200, 208, 210, 212, 214, 216 tractors, 120 and 140 tractors, and the 300, 312, 314, 316 (with the Kohler engine), and the 317 tractors. It won't work on the open frame tractors like the 318, 316 Onan, 322, 330, and 332 tractors.
