Have any of you Ariens GT owners ever come accross 1 these tractors
with Cozy Cab (Metal Frame) not Canvas 1 ariens used on many
these tractors. It has 48 inch snowblower Attachment and 4 new Tires.
with KT-17 Series 2 engine.

Im well aware of KT series 1 problems, since my dad owned a 1980 317 JD
that blew a rod 8 yrs later, before we knew about the recall with FREE replacement
KT series 2 engine that JD offer 317 owners, JD would not honor ours since it was
out of recall peroid.

What are some of things i need to look for, that common trouble spots with
these units. Guy wants $2500 for it. Is it worth the cash? seems high.

your imput would be great appreicated.

:welcome: to the forum:
I purchased one of those years ago as a basket case. Never got it put together as someone else decided they needed it more than their money. Just hate when that happens.
From what I saw of it, seemed like a pretty robust machine. The Ariens two stage snow blowers on one of those tractors is pretty difficult to beat. If I remember correctly all attachments are shaft driven. I can't think of any reason I would not look into it. The price seems a little steep to me unless the engine has been updated recently. Nice looking outfit either way.

A little on the high end, but the cab does help. I would say around $2000 as thats what i have seen on them before. I saw one for $1200 that just came with the mower deck, no blower or cab. Also four new tires? Thats a lot of value right there!

Thanks for imput thus far, i thought 2500 seem a little steep. I fiqured he
had aleast 500 into new tires. I had a chance to look @ it today, its a little
rough, some of the cab glass has spider cracks, some rust on the inside of tractor
Cab, mostly on frame and floor boards. Cab looked dry on inside, from all the rain we
just had in NW ohio looks like the unit sits outside. Blower looked okay but
was not mounted, due to a cracked pulley on the front PTO on tractor,
shaft bearing or shaft got bent. He was fixing it at the time i veiwed it.

Engine runs well, has a side mounted exhaust stack (Muffler) to cab
looks original which cannot be seen in the photo to well. I thought
about offering 2K, but someone previous offered 1500 which i thought
was a little more realistic due to condition. dont get me wrong its not
horrible but at least it looks mechincally sound besides the small PTO
Problem. but he's pretty set on his price.

Thanks for hello's going back from a few posts, from the other memebers.
So do you think it still a good buy?or should steer away from it.

You arent going to find a better snowblower than that

High, yes, to me, but to the right person no. Go buy a JD that is the same thing, you will pay a good bit more and it wont be as good

These are great tractors, but this price sounds a bit steep to me too. I have a GT20 that I purchased a couple years ago with about 1500 hours on it. Came with the same attachments including the cab, and I paid $1800.

Here is an example of a GT17 I have seen for sale for a while now. It doesn't have the cab, but it does have the very rare OEM vacuum attachment. He only wants $1850, but you would have quite a drive to go get it.

Ariens GT-17

There are others too for comparison:
1989 Ariens gt17 tractor
Great heavy duty garden tractor with plow and mower deck
Ariens GT-17 w/48" deck, 48" blower, "Johnny Bucket" loader

I just bought a GT17 for $700 with deck and snowblower, chains and wieghts. I got a steal! A few years back I paid $2500 for S18H with snowblower deck wieghts and a tiller. I think I over paid for the 18 horse, but didn't know any better at the time. My GT17 runs and starts great, I like it better than the 18. They are a great snow blowing machine!

Custom 6, I just bought the GT17 with the Johnny bucket attachment mentioned. If you don't buy the tractor you mentioned, I would like the phone # of the seller. I would like to try to buy the cab. Thank you!
