GTtalk's Featured Tractor of the Month of February 2012!

My entry is a 1968 Sears SS12, that I have converted into the SkiTractor. During the dead of winter, I do some logging, and at times, my Alpine Twintrack snowmobile has traction problems on the 300 yard beaver pond crossing that I have to make. I didn't want to stud the Alpine tracks, as that's hard on them, and they're very expensive.

I figured chains would be the answer, so I added the dualies and chained them up. I haven't been able to get out on the glare ice yet, because we haven't had much of a winter yet, but after doing the test run, I'm confident it'll work fine.

Congrats to Daniel for winning Featured Tractor of the Month for September 2011. This months feature theme was all about the implements.

So I enter my "built from scratch" FEL. I built it from complete scratch in 2005, onto a modified Massey 1650 chassis. I originally had a single bucket tilt cylinder, but a few years later, I changed it to twin tilt cylinders for more tilt power. Here are pictures of it's 6yrs of evolving. ...

I didn't get to spend as much time at this show as I would have liked to due to other commitments. This was my first time at the show after being told from quite a few people that it is a nice show. After being there I can definitely agree that they do have a great show at Menges Mills. They have a very nice layout along with some great shade cover from all of the mature trees and the ground is fairly level as well so it makes for easier walking.

This was my first ever trip to the Wheel Horse Collector's Club's annual show in Arentsdale, PA. I had no idea what to expect when we arrived. Knowing that it's the largest & most well attended single brand annual show in the country, I eagerly anticipated the trip all week...We were not to be disappointed!

Congratulations to IamSherwood for winning June's Featured Garden Tractor of the Month with his 1972 Massey Ferguson MF14 garden tractor with a Haban sickle bar mower and 3pt rear lift. The nominations for this month were outstanding and made for a very tough decision. Especially going against a David Bradley Tri-Trac.

The 6th Annual PA Plow Day was a great time. This year we decided to get a hotel room so we wouldn't have to drive back and forth and it was actually cheaper staying then it would have been paying for gas. We got up to Danville around 8am on Friday. The weather Friday was absolutely perfect. When we got there it was great having such a nice welcome and everyone's willingness to lend a hand.

Back in 2003 I bought a plating kit from Caswell Inc. Plating. It is a bright nickel finish called "Copy Chrome". True chrome plating is very expensive & dangerous due to deadly chemicals, but the "Copy Chrome" is very safe. I'm sure you can't drink the plating solution, but just touching it, or even dipping your hands into it will not make you sick or even have any sort of ill effect.

My story goes back to the spring of 2005. I was visiting with good friend Gene Preston and our conversation led the subject of Simplicity and Allis-Chalmers garden tractors that he remembered being used in the area. Gene being a long time resident and third generation to farm here in Greece, New York, was familiar with most of the lawn and garden equipment that was used to maintain properties here in this northwest suburb of Rochester, N.Y.

After reading a lot about electrolysis rust removal, I decided to give it a try. Sandblasting can be messy, plus requires more air than most of us have available, so when blasting we spend much more time waiting for the compressor to catch up than actual sand blasting time.
