Got a tight rollpin that won't budge? Here's a simple method to get them out
Rollpins are not meant to come out easy. And, over time, they really get stuck in place. Here is a simple method to loosening and removing them.
First, soak the roll pin with your favorite loosening agent. I like to use the 50/50 acetone and transmission mix. let that soak in good.
Next, put a pin style chisel tip in your air hammer/chisel. Place the tip of the chisel on end of the roll pin and pull the trigger. The tip might slip off the roll pin at first, but keep trying. The quick blows of the air hammer work well to loosen and push the roll pin.
After the rollpin has been loosened. You can finish pushing it out of the hole with a steel rod slightly under-sized for the hole. For 1/4 in roll pins, I use a 1/4 inch steel rod that is about 10 inches long. I used my 1 inch wide belt sander to sand about an inch of one end so it will fit in the the hole where the roll pin is to finish pushing the roll pin out.
That should do it!
