I can likely add to your research as I have posted catalog scans in Yahoo Groups from Farmerik's collection. Pre-war models that come to mind are a Team-Trac and in the UK the Hoe-mate, Chor-mate and Plow-mate sold by BMB (British Motor Boat Co.)

Great write up Brian. Just found it and you did quite well with it. Was your sources the old Wards farm & garden catalogs?
